Primexx Flowback Optimization
How Interface helped Primexx optimize high-TDS Wolfcamp frac chemistry, reduce chemical loading, and lower cost by more than 50%.
Overview
Primexx Energy Partners Ltd. is a technology-focused operator in the Southern Delaware Basin of West Texas. The company engaged Interface Fluidics to evaluate chemical-additive performance for its fracturing operations.
Customer Context
Primexx was seeking the most cost-effective and highest-performing chemical additives for Wolfcamp development. The work focused on screening chemistry in a reservoir-relevant context rather than relying on generic product comparisons.
Problem Statement
Primexx needed to determine:
- which additives delivered measurable value in a high-TDS system
- whether lower chemical loadings could preserve performance
- whether an additional supplier could be technically qualified for field use
Screening Approach
Interface screened seven products from five vendors using a microfluidic workflow designed to reflect the target reservoir environment. The work compared candidate chemistries under reservoir-relevant conditions for flowback optimization.
Basin and Water Chemistry Context
This work was carried out for Southern Delaware Basin wells in West Texas. The case study sits in a Wolfcamp, high-TDS brine context, where water chemistry can materially affect additive performance and dosage decisions.
Measurable Outcomes
Through Interface’s screening process, Primexx was able to:
- a new vendor was qualified for use
- chemical loadings were reduced by 3x relative to prior wells
- initial production was maintained
- chemical cost was reduced by more than 50% compared with the previous fracturing program
Operational Takeaway
The work gave Primexx a basis to qualify a new vendor, reduce chemical loading, and lower chemical cost while maintaining initial production.
